MASTERWORKS 2:

Fright Night

Clyne, Daugherty, Mussorgsky, Berlioz

Darko Butoracconductor

Elvisbassoon (played by Michael Burns)

Berlioz’s grand Symphonie Fantastique headlines this ghoulish concert. Inspired by an opium trip, it remains one of the most original and unusual symphonies in the standard repertoire. The first half offers three unusual counterparts: Anna Clyne’s Masquerade, a thrilling overture written by one of Classical music’s rising stars, Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain in it’s rare, more gritty and powerful original version and finally, Daughterty’s Dead Elvis — a performance piece for bassoon soloist complete with an Elvis jumpsuit!

Program:

Anna Clyne: Masquerade
Daugherty: Dead Elvis
Mussorgsky: Night on Bald Mountain original version
Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique
